All podcast applications I have tested were quite OK(ish) – but I have always struggled with organizing podcasts, creating playlists, etc. It has always been challenging. Therefore, for me, it is more convenient to download podcasts as MP3s and manage them myself (in VLC, for example).

There are many ways to do that, but my favorite one is to use https://podcastindex.org/podcast. I can search for my podcasts, choose an episode (or the whole podcast using the ‘copy RSS link’ option), and then use the fantastic yt-dlp to download it.

Short article, but I hope it can be useful in case you have the same dilemmas as I have.
